The General Council of the Spanish Bar offers training in fundamental rights of the EU Charter

The General Council of the Spanish Bar provides a training module on the protection of fundamental rights in the EU to legal professionals working in the judicial system of the Member States of the European Union (EU). The introductory module, which will be taught online, is offered both to the lawyers (it is not necessary to be a practitioner), as well as members of the judiciary and the prosecution.

Tue Jul 19 08:00:00 CEST 2022

Content:

“Fundamental rights” are enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, which has been legally binding since the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty in December 2009. This instrument of EU legislation protects and promotes the rights and the freedoms of people in the light of changes in society, social progress and scientific and technological advances.

In this way, Member States have a duty and responsibility to ensure respect for fundamental rights when acting in the field of EU law. This is required of their legal operators when administering civil and criminal proceedings, especially in the application of the instruments of judicial cooperation in the Union.

Submission of applications

The module consists of a 30-minute presentation video and 3 30-slide power point presentations with recorded explanations, case studies and related tasks, as well as a final test.

Now it is open the deadline to select candidates. Required:

  • send a request to fundacion@fundacionabogacia.org
  • indicate in the subject “DataProtFund: Module 1 Fundamental Rights, Surname, Surname, First Name”;
  • attach a CV and interest in the topic in question;
  • have an English level of B1.

Applications will be evaluated and provided in a link to register.

The candidates selected for the introductory module will be able to take part in two advanced seminars on the same subject, which will take place in Luxembourg on 25 and 26 October 2022, and in Madrid on 28 February and 1 March 2023.

More information about the “DataProtFundRights” project

This training is part of the EU project "DataProtFundRights", which aims to train on the fundamental rights contained in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, data protection and the right to privacy. In particular, the trainings will address the rights that are considered most relevant both for national civil and criminal proceedings and for those involving cross-border cooperation.

Coordinated by the European Institute of Legal Administration (EIPA), the CGAE collaborates in this project with the National School of Magistracy and the Prosecutor's Office of Poland (KSSIP, Krajowa Szkola Sadownictwa I Prokuratury), the National Judicial Administration of Lithuania (NCA, Nacionaline Teismu Administracija) and the Higher Bar Council of Poland (NRA, Naczelna Rada Adwokacka). It is a project co-financed by the European Commission.
